Rudy Boschwitz
Former U.S. Senator and Ambassador

Rudy Boschwitz is a distinguished statesman, diplomat, and humanitarian with decades of leadership in public service and international affairs. A former United States Senator from Minnesota, he also served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
In 1991, President George H.W. Bush appointed Senator Boschwitz as his special emissary to Ethiopia. His mission led to Operation Solomon, the historic rescue and airlift of Ethiopia’s small Black Jewish community to Israel.
These negotiations not only saved lives but also contributed to ending Ethiopia’s decades-long civil war. In recognition of his achievements in the Horn of Africa, President Bush awarded Senator Boschwitz the prestigious Citizen’s Medal during a White House Rose Garden ceremony in June 1991.
Senator Boschwitz attended Johns Hopkins University and earned his law degree from New York University.
Over his career, he has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, American Cancer Society, Twin City Federal Financial Corporation, American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), IDT Corporation, and Friends of the World Food Program. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, was a long-standing AIPAC Board Member, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
